Chess in Lima

Chess in Lima, district by district

Most chess in Lima happens in clubs and academies that run their own tournaments, spread from Comas, Los Olivos and San Martín de Porres in the north to San Juan de Miraflores in the south, with Barranco, Surquillo, Surco and Breña in between. Schools and district councils add festivals for young players, and Callao keeps a Sunday series of its own. The clubs come first below, then every other place to play.

Chess960 in Lima

Lima has more Chess960 over a real board than any listing would suggest. Club de Ajedrez Barranco Crema runs a numbered “Ajedrez 960” series: the first three editions in September, October and November 2025 and a 2026-I edition on 31 March 2026, which was free for the club’s affiliated members. Club Lima Chess in San Martín de Porres held the second of its own Chess960 training tournaments on 15 November 2025, and a “Free Style Ajedrez 960” tournament of 2 March 2025 shares that club’s information number. No edition after March 2026 has been found yet.

In Chess960 the back-rank pieces start in one of 960 shuffled positions, so prepared opening lines count for little and the game is decided at the board. Between the Barranco evenings it can be played online at ch960.com.

How these lists are kept

Every card rests on a page anyone can open, most often a tournament listing that names the organiser and the hall, and each fact carries the date its page was read.

Cards are ordered by the date of their newest evidence of chess, newest first; the order is not a judgement of quality. A fact that no page states reads “not stated by sources”. What the status lines mean and where the list stops is set out on how it is checked.

A club or a series missing?

Clubs in Lima change halls, rename their series and start new ones every season. If your club, academy or tournament is not here, or a card is out of date, send a note with a link to the page that shows it.
